Mile 21 – First Day Report

Hi – this is Melissa’s Mom writing tonight. Justin and Melissa called from a friend’s cell phone (a kind Trail Angel, I think) and they are at the southern terminus (near the beginning of the Pacific Crest Trail). They told me they had a GREAT day viewing gorgeous wildflowers and meeting lots of new friends on the trail… plus they hiked 21 miles too. Justin said that Melissa really sped up at the end because she was looking forward to a cheeseburger and peanut butter shake that they would have at their planned stop tonight. Both Justin and Melissa sound happy and energetic.

The reason I’m writing this tonight is because Melissa’s iPhone died. Yep, on the very first day – and it’s less than 30 days old. I think it may have overheated, but who knows. They will be trying to get a replacement iPhone tomorrow if possible, before they head out again. We should see pics tomorrow once they are back online, so stay tuned!
